The 2025 Busan International Photography Festival, Honbul, will be the first photography
festival in South Korea to explore "human existence through Korea's unique cultural and philosophical lens"
a theme deeply grounded in the country’s spiritual heritage. Featuring both Korean and
international artists, the festival will highlight the artistic and philosophical values of Korea’s
unique spirit and philosophy.
It will also delve into the global conversation surrounding contemporary art and the
"value of the spirit," showcasing the unique significance of Korean photography and what it offers to the
world. Highlights of the festival include the major exhibition "Honbul, Light of the Abyss," the
international young artist exchange exhibition "Under the Skin; Heat and skin" and the international
open-call exhibition "Soul of the Sea." These will be held across various venues, including the F1963
Sukcheon Hall, Space Wonji, and Ilsan-Suji in Hakjang Industrial Complex, with additional special
exhibitions and events to come.
2Rooted in the deep cultural traditions of the Korean people and shaped by the country’s
long history, the 2025 Busan International Photography Festival will highlight the unique value
of Korean photography. It will also offer a global perspective, highlighting Korea’s expanding
influence on the international photography scene. This year’s event will further establish the
Busan International Photography Festival as a central force in shaping Korea’s photographic
