2023 Busan International Photo Festival Special Exhibition_Youth Exhibition
부산국제사진제 특별전인 청소년전은 오데사 포토데이즈 페스티벌(Odesa Photo Days Festival)에서 사진 멘토링 프로그램을 통해 선발된 젊은 사진가와 박건희문화재단의 다음 주니어(Daum Junior)에 참여하는 학생들 중 일부의 작업을 선보인다.
부산국제사진제는 여러 해 동안 우크라이나 오데사와 깊은 인연을 맺어왔다. 하지만 작년에는 이들을 초대하지 못했다. 올해는 작년 가을에 선발된 젊은 작가 중 일부를 초대하게 기쁘게 생각한다. 박건희문화재단과는 해마다 결속을 돈독하게 하였다. 올해는 협업을 통해 전시를 구성하게 되었다.
The Youth Exhibition, a special exhibition of the Busan International Photo Festival, will showcase the work of young photographers selected through a photo mentoring program at the Odessa Photo Days Festival and some of the students participating in the Park Kun-hee Cultural Foundation's Daum Junior.
The Busan International Photo Festival has had deep ties with Odessa, Ukraine, for many years. However, they were not invited last year. This year we are pleased to invite some of the young photographers selected last fall. We strengthened our solidarity with the Park Gun-hee Cultural Foundation every year. This year, the exhibition was organized through collaboration.
박건희문화재단
박건희문화재단은 故 박건희의 문화예술에 대한 뜻을 기리고자 2001년에 설립된 비영리문화재단이다.
박건희는 대학에서 사진을 전공하고 미래의 작가로 주목을 받았으며 1995년 ㈜다음커뮤니케이션을 공동 창업하여 한국 최초로 Virtual Gallery를 운영하고 제1회 광주비엔날레를 인터넷으로 생중계하는 등 다양한 문화사업을 실천하여 한국 문화예술의 진흥과 세계화를 시도하였다.
박건희문화재단은 사진가의 창작을 지원하는 다음작가상(유보 中), 한국 사진 웹 아카이브 Virtual Gallery, 사진으로 꿈꾸는 모든 대학생의 열린 희망 미래작가상, 청소년을 위한 예술가 체험 교육 프로그램인 다음 주니어 사진 페스티벌, 사진을 통한 재능 나눔 등의 사업을 운영하고 있다. 스물아홉에 심정지로 세상을 떠난 박건희의 열정과 도전 그리고 창의적 정신은 박건희문화재단의 문화사업을 통해 이어져 가고 있다.
Parkgeonhi Foundation is a non-profit art foundation established in 2001 to pay tribute to the late Park Geonhi for his passion for culture and art. Park, a photography major, r eceived attention as a promising artist and co-founded Daum Communications Corporation in 1995, where he a ttempted to drive the growth and globalization of Korean culture and art through various culture-related businesses such as opening a virtual gallery for the first time in Korea and broadcasting live the first Gwangju Biennale.
Parkgeonhi Foundation conducts the following businesses: the Daum Prize, to support the creation of photographers; the Virtual Gallery, to build a web archive for Korean photographs; the Mirae Awards, to support university students to become next-generation artists; the Daum Junior Photo Festival, to provide teenagers interested in photography with art experience education; talent sharing through photography. Park’s passion, challenges and creativity have lasted through Parkgeonhi Foundation’s cultural businesses.

나의 삶의 태도를 되돌아봤을 때, 타인의 시선을 의식하여 내향적이고 자신감 없는 생활을 하고 있었다. 주체적인 행동을 스스로 가둔 채 지내다 보니 내면의 나와 충돌하게 되었고, 이번 작품을 통해 웅크리고 있는 진실한 나와 마주하고 싶었다.

찍기 위한 과정 -

2사진 한 장을 만드는데 많은 과정이 필요하다 같은 장소를 노출을 변경해서 수십번씩 반복해서 찍어 보기도 한다 이렇게 많이 찍은 사진중에 베스트컷이 한 장이라고 한 장만 쓰기에는 나머지 사진들이 아까운것 같았다 그래서 그 순간 찍었던 모든 사진을 콜라주로 합성해 보았다

인생의 단편 -

사람들은 대부분 인생의 단편, 즉, 당장 눈앞의 찰나의 순간, 소수의 사건에만 집중하여 파고들어 그 외의 것들은 배제해 버린다. 넓게 보면 끝도 없이 광활한 것이 인생이지만 단편적인 것에 얽매이는 우리들의 단편적인 시선을 찍어보았다. 시공간의 격차와 같은 느낌을 위해 채도로 대비를 주었다.

무작위로 고른 배경 위에 나와 연관된 인물들의 사진을 배치했을 때, 원본의 사진과는 다른 새롭게 보이는 이미지의 의미를 찾아보는 작업입니다. 사진들을 각각 보았을 땐 상상할 수 없던 이미지들의 연관성을 구축하며, 사진이 보여지는 방식에 따라 변화하는 사진의 성격을 알아보고자 하였습니다.

나에게 있어 물이란 동생과의 추억을 떠올리게 하는 매개체이다. 바다, 계곡, 분수, 비 등 물과 관련한 것들을 마주할 때마다 나는 과거 동생과 함께했던 시간을 떠올리게 된다. 나는 현재 그것을 떠올리게 된 시점의 사진과 과거의 장면을 병치시켜 불현듯 떠오르는 이 추억들을 보다 명료하게 정착시키고자 한다.
오데사 포토 데이즈
Odesa Photo Days는 국제적인 현대 사진 페스티벌로써 2015년에 설립되었다.
2014년에 이 사진 축제 아이디어를 생각했고, 매년 다양한 프로그램을 통해 사진 축제를 열고 있다. 8년 동안 축제와 전쟁, 전쟁과 축제와 함께 공존했다. 세계에서 우크라이나 사진의 문화적 옹호에 참여하고 대화를 위한 플랫폼을 구축했다. 지난 몇 년 동안은 특히 불확실성 속에서 행사를 진행했고, 자금이 부족하지만, 양질의 콘텐츠를 위해 노력했다.
Odesa Photo Days International Festival of Contemporary Photography was founded in 2015. They came up with the idea of this photo festival in 2014 and have a photo festival every year through various programs. For eight years, They have existed alongside: the festival and the war, the war and the festival. They engaged in the cultural advocacy of Ukrainian photography in the world and built up platforms for dialogue. Throughout these years, They have worked under total uncertainty: they fought for quality content with a lack of funding.

I‘ve spent my whole life in Kharkiv and I’m staying here now. I study at the Kharkiv State Academy of Culture to become a cinematographer. I’ve been interested in photography for five years now, and started shooting regularly two years ago. I’ve also taken a part-time journalism course at Karazin Kharkiv National University. I’m interested in both documentary photography and documentaries. I like to walk around the city, take pictures and create! I see my future in peaceful Ukraine, in my hometown. I would like to contribute to the development of the Ukrainian film industry and culture in general.

This is how I prefer to feel the world: rhythm, colours, voices and music. I’m a third-year student at the Kharkiv State Academy of Culture. I’ve been fascinated by art since 2019. In 2020, I became interested in street photography. Then, in 2021, I took up fine art photography.
I’ve fled Ukraine because of the full-scale invasion. I’m living abroad now. Six months ago, I felt too much at once, and it seemed I was too exhausted to focus and create. Several month later, I got the opportunity to participate in Odesa Photo Days’ online mentoring programme. It saved me. For now, I’ve decided to focus on street photography.

My friends and relatives call me Baby, because I was a tiny child. I was deaf and mute until the age of five. Then I got fitted for hearing aids and started learning to hear and talk to the world. That was challenging, but when I was seven, I was able to go to an ordinary school and study among ordinary children.
At eleven, I was operated for implant placement. I had to start over: I had to learn everything all over again, even vowel sounds. That was challenging, time-consuming and nerve-wracking, but I succeeded with the help of my family. I finished a regular secondary school and entered the University of Culture to study fine art photography. I studied there for two years, but has quitted this year and moved to Cyprus because of the war.
However, I’m still passionate about photography. I dream of becoming a fine art photographer. I have to admit it’s still a bit difficult and embarrassing for me to work with people.
